Birds

OPENING SONG: Mister Sun

OPENING RHYMES:

ACTION RHYME: Little Birds, Little Birds

Little birds, little birds, jump up and down.
Little birds, little birds, don’t make a sound!
Little birds, little birds, tip-toe to me.
Little birds, little birds, bend your knees!
Little birds, little birds, peep, peep, peep.
Little birds, little birds, sleep, sleep, sleep.
Little birds, little birds, fly to the leaves!
Little birds, little birds, sit down, please.

BOOK 1: Birds by Kevin Henkes
Love this book!

FLANNEL ACTIVITY: Birdhouses – Colors & Shapes
This fun flannel activity comes from Falling Flannelboards. The group had fun matching the birds to their homes by identifying colors and shapes – not to mention they turned out too cute!

CLOSING RHYME: Tickle the Clouds

CLOSING SONG: Skinnamarink

CRAFT: Cheerio Birdfeeders
We used Multi-Grain Cheerios and different colored pipe cleaners to create our birdfeeders! This is a great activity that teaches fine motor skills. The kids formed their pipe cleaners into a variety of shapes! Twine can be used at the top to create a loop for hanging.

 ACTIVITY: Matching Bird Nests
I left these bird nests out for the kids to play with after storytime and they were a hit! They can match the birds in the nests by family, color, and size! The nests are made from brown paper bags (lunch sacks) and the birds are just printed and laminated.

  1. Mollie: This is such a cute storytime! I stumbled across the Birdhouses Colors & Shapes flannelboard at your desk the other day and couldn’t get over how awesome it turned out. Love it! (And the bird nests are adorable.) You do such amazing work. 🙂
