Spooktacular Storytime- Happy Halloween!

OPENING SONG: Can’t Wait to Celebrate

BOOK 1: Click, Clack, Boo! by Doreen Cronin

Ring Around the Pumpkins
Pocket full of spiders
Boo! Boo!
We all fall down!
The ghosts are in the meadow
Drinking witches brew
Boo! Boo!
We all stand up!

*I didn’t get a chance to do this one because we had lots of kids and a limited amount of space but I thought it would be a fun one 🙂

Five Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate, (show 5 fingers)
The first one said, (1 finger)
“Oh, my, it’s getting late.” (hands on cheeks)
The second one said, (2 fingers)
“There are witches in the air.” (point up and look up)
The third one said, (3 fingers)
“But we don’t care.” (wag pointer finger)
The fourth one said, (4 fingers)
“Let’s run and run and run.” (move arms like you’re running)
The fifth one said, (5 fingers)
“I’m ready for some fun.” (punch up w/both fists)
“Whooo!” went the wind,
and out went the light, (clap on “out”)
And the five little pumpkins (5 fingers)
rolled out of sight. (roll arms)

This was SO FUN! Although it took a little bit of time it’s so worth it – you can use it year after year! The whole group loved how the ghosts would hide and then come back as we shouted BOO! I have taken pictures of both the front and back so you can see how it was made. I used a big cereal box for the house and decorated it with foam, puff paint, and construction paper. Next, I cut out 5 holes for the windows. I added orange felt curtains on the back of the windows using tape. To make the ghosts easy to take on and off I glued magnets to them and glued magnets to each window.

Five little ghosts in a haunted house at play,
Along came a funny skeleton and chased one ghost away.
Four little ghosts in a haunted house at play,
Along came a giant monster and chased one ghost away.
Three little ghosts in a haunted house at play,
Along came a tiny spider and chased one ghost away.
Two little ghosts in a haunted house at play,
Along came an ugly witch and chased one ghost away.
One little ghost in a haunted house at play,
Along came a big fat cat and chased the ghost away.
Can you find the ghosts and say:
1, 2, 3, BOO! Ghosts come back and play! (do it 5 times for each ghost)

FLANNEL STORY: Mouse’s Halloween House
Template and story from: Mother Goose’s Playhouse by Judy Sierra
In this story, little mice nibble windows and doors in their big orange house until it becomes a Jack-o-lantern.

SONG: We Will Stomp By Mr. Eric & Mr. Michael (Eric Litwin & Michael Levine) from the album Yummy Yellow from the Learning Groove
In this song they pretend to be monsters… there is LOTS of moving! 🙂

We Will Stomp (L'Arlesienne Suite) (Classical Orchestra)

BOOK 2: Brooms are for Flying by Michael Rex
We use this book almost every year because it’s such a fun one! I always read it with everyone standing up so we can do all the motions as in the book. Great for an interactive storytime!
