TODDLER PROGRAM
This week we had a special storytime! Everyone was invited to a Teddy Bear’s Picnic – including favorite bears and stuffed animals 🙂 I was so excited to do this theme thinking it would be a beautiful Spring day, but I was very wrong! Flurries are blowing here in Kansas! Regardless of the cold weather we had an awesome indoor picnic 🙂

ACTION RHYME: 5 Hungry Ants
5 Hungry Ants, marching in a line
They came upon a picnic, where they could dine,
They marched into the salad,
They marched into the cake,
They marched into the pepper,
Uh-Oh! That was a mistake!

FLANNEL SONG: Going on a Picnic!
This idea came from Miss Courtney Meets Bobo. First, I asked the group what types of food they would like to bring to the picnic. After getting some interesting responses I brought out my flannel food pieces. We talked about which was our favorite and what color each one was. Then I played the song Going on a Picnic by Raffi and we sang (chanted) along!
Song: Going on a Picnic from the album The Corner Grocery Store by Raffi
Flannel Food Pieces: All found from clker
Apple, Melon, Lemonade, Cookie, Sandwich
ACTION RHYME: Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear
Everyone danced with their teddy’s and stuffed animals! The group loved this 🙂

BOOK 2: Bear Wants More by Karma Wilson
The group loved chanting “…but he wants MORE!”
CLOSING RHYME: Tickle the Clouds
CLOSING SONG: Skinnamarink
CRAFT: CD Bears
This is a fun craft to do if you have any old/recyclable C.D.’s that need to be used! Cut out the bear ears and nose and let the children draw on the mouth. I also passed out sticker eyes but googly eyes would work great too!

SNACKS: I thought it would be fun to have a little snack mix the children could eat since we are at a picnic! I bought honeycomb cereal and goldfish because honey and fish are favorite bear foods 🙂 I also snuck in a few gummy bears because those are my favorite! Strawberries and blueberries would also be a good treat!
