Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤
OPENING SONG: The More We Get Together
BOOK 1: If You’ll Be My Valentine by Cynthia Rylant
Valentines, valentines, how many do you see?
Valentines, valentines, count them all with me
One for father, one for mother (count on fingers)
One for grandma too
One for sister, one for brother (repeat)
And here is one for you (make heart with thumbs and index fingers)

I have a little heart, (place hand over heart)
And it goes thump, thump, thump (pat chest three times)
It keeps right on beating,
When I jump, jump, jump (jump three times)
I get a special feeling, when I look at you. (point to group)
It makes me want to give you a hug or two. (hug yourself)

ACTION SONG: You Are My Sunshine
from the album Songs for Wiggle Worms
This song is a little short, so I played it twice. It was a familiar song to the kids and they really enjoyed singing along! Very easy motions too!
FLANNEL BOARD: Six Valentines
This flannel story/rhyme is so cute and fun! The group got very involved-counting, naming colors and animals!
Six little Valentines were sent to my house,
The first one said, “I love you, From Mouse.”
Five little Valentines in my mailbox,
The second one said, “Be mine, Love Fox.”
Four little Valentines full of love,
The third one said, “You are sweet, From Dove.”
Three little Valentines just for me,
The fourth one said, “Be my honey, Love Bee.”
Two little Valentine’s mailed with care,
The fifth one said, “Here’s a hug, From Bear.”
The last little Valentine, from my friend Jay,
This one said, “Happy Valentine’s Day!”

BOOK 2: Guess Who? A Foldout Valentine’s Adventure
by Lola Schaefer
This is actually a board book, but has foldout animals that are huge! The children loved guessing each animal! Great for storytime 🙂
CLOSING RHYME: Tickle the Clouds
CLOSING SONG: Skinnamarink
CRAFT: Valentine Heart’s
I had the group make simple valentine’s using stickers and hearts! You can never go wrong with cute foam stickers… the children always love them and the parents do too- no mess!
VALENTINE TREAT: Bear Hugs!
This idea came from Spoonful.com – Bear Hug valentine treat bags filled with Teddy Grahams and Hershey Kiss HUGS. I substituted the gummy bears for the Hershey HUGS because I wanted to add a little chocolate 🙂 Cheap and easy!
