Hungry for Storytime

TODDLER PROGRAM

OPENING SONG: If You’re Happy and You Know It

OPENING RHYMES:

FINGERPLAY: Way Up High in the Apple Tree
Way up high in the apple tree,
two red apples smiled at me

I shook that tree as hard as I could
Down came the apples …mmmm they were good!

FINGERPLAY/ACTION SONG:  Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, PIZZA MAN!

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, pizza man (clap hands)
Make me a pizza as fast as you can (shake finger)
Roll it (roll hands)
Toss it (pretend to toss in air)
Sprinkle it with cheese (sprinkling motions)
Put it in the oven (pushing motion)
for you and me!

*This was a really fun new version of Pat-a-cake that the children loved!

SONG: Peanut Butter & Jelly by The Learning Station
Great song to use with actions- crunch peanut butter, squish jelly, spread them together, eat it!

FLANNEL ACTIVITY: Healthy vs. Unhealthy Food
This activity went over pretty well with the children and was fun for parents too 🙂 First, cut out and laminate pictures of healthy and unhealthy foods. Then make two categories for the food to go under such as “sometimes” and “always”. I would hold up the food and then ask the kids what it was and if we should eat it everyday or just sometimes for a treat! Some responses were very funny!

BOOK 2: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Pop-Up Book by Eric Carle

ClOSING RHYME: Tickle the Clouds

CLOSING SONG: Skinnamarink

CRAFT: This craft was inspired by a pinterest board! Make caterpillars with fingerprints – use kid-friendly ink pads and let the children use their imagination! Before hand I went ahead and cut out a small red circle for the caterpillars head so they had somewhere to start and go off of.
