Songs with Santa

1 Jan

I’m a little late in getting this posted, but here’s a quick summary of our ‘Songs with Santa’ family program.  It ended up being a very cold, rainy/icy night and I considered cancelling the program, but despite the weather about 25 people showed up.  First we sang Christmas carols, with “Here Comes Santa Claus” welcoming Santa into the room.  (I learned from last year that songs sheets with the words to the carols were a must!  Here’s our handout.)   Then everyone decorated sugar cookies with icing and sprinkles, while  children took turns sitting on Santa’s lap.  Santa had a gift for each child (a snowman notepad and a Christmas stamp), and there was plenty of opportunity for parents and caregivers to take pictures of their children with Santa.

Here’s my supply list for this program:

  • Song sheets with words to the carols
  • Santa’s gifts (from Oriental trading)
  • Red tablecloths
  • Christmas napkins and plates
  • Holiday sprinkles
  • Red and green icing
  • Sugar cookies
  • Plastic knives
  • and Santa Claus!

Creating a yummy masterpiece.

Santa had a special gift for each child.

Merry Christmas!

FAMILY PROGRAM

This was a special evening storytime for children of all ages and their families.  Everyone gathered around the warm fireplace to listen to some Christmas stories and sing carols.   Then Santa came to visit all of the good boys and girls and brought them treats! Continue reading

BOOK 2: Dream Snow by Eric Carle

SONG: We Wish You A Merry Christmas
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas;
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Good tidings we bring to you and your kin;
Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year.

CRAFT:  A simple wreath craft that can be used as an ornament, or can be hung on a door or wall for decoration.
Here is my printable wreath pattern/template.

I cut out two wreaths: one in light green and one in a darker green.  We used stickers to decorate our wreaths, but these also look nice decorated with cut-out holly leaves and berries (see photo below), buttons, ribbon, glitter, or any odds and ends that you may have lying around!
