TODDLER STORYTIME
Today was the last toddler storytime of the spring. It has been so much fun with such a wonderful group of children and parents! We’ll take a month break (to plan for summer and get rejuvenated) and then I’ll see you all again in June for the summer reading program, “One World, Many Stories.”
OPENING SONG: Mister Sun
OPENING RHYMES:
Today’s theme is farm animals! Can you name some farm animals? What sounds do they make? (Bring out any farm animal stuffed animals or puppets at this point.)
BOOK 1: Clip-Clop by Nicola Smee

FLANNEL SONG: Five Clean Squeaky Pigs
Sing it to “Five Green and Speckled Frogs”
This flannel song came from Mel’s Desk – visit her blog to print out her clipart file!
Five pigs so squeaky clean
Cleanest you’ve ever seen
Wanted to go outside and play
Oink! Oink! (clap, clap)
One jumped into the mud
Landed with a great big thud
Then there were four clean squeaky pigs.

Is Mother Hen
Cackle cackle cackle Clap hands as you say Cackle!
What do I see?
Ten fluffy chickens Switch eggs for chicks.
Yellow as can be.

SNACK: Pig Cookies
The recipe and instructions for these pig cookies came from a Taste of Home.
Instructions: Ice sugar cookies with pink frosting. Cut pink sugar wafers into small triangles. Add triangles for ears. Cut large marshmallows in half; poke two holes in each marshmallow with a toothpick. Press peanut butter or butterscotch chips upside-down into the holes. Add mini chocolate chips as eyes. Add pink sprinkles as desired :) Cute pig cookies complete!

Book: Barnyard Banter by Denise Fleming

Book: I Went Walking by Sue Williams

Song: Old McDonald
There is a great version on Old Town School of Folk Music’s album Songs for Wiggleworms. It has great rhythm and ends with “…and on that farm he had a greeeaaatt biiiiiig tickle bug!….” Listen or download the song here.
Flannel Board: Rooster’s feathers
(Tune: Do You Know the Muffin Man)
Place a rooster on the flannel board and explain that he has lost his feathers. Hand out different colored paper feathers to children. Then sing the following song:
Do you have a red feather,
A red feather, a red feather?
If you have a red feather,
Bring it up here now.
Repeat with other colors.
